Sometimes the words to familiar carols and songs just become routine. At times, when we re-read them, we realize that - even though they were written long ago - the truth of their message is true for our times. Such is this old carol that a dear friend posted somewhere else following the events of the past few days. Take time to focus on the words - and their meaning. They hold such a strong message we need to remember!
I heard the bells on Christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime
Of peace on earth, good will to men.
And in despair I bowed my head
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate isstrong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
“There is no peace on earth,” I said,
“For hate is
Of peace on earth, good will to men.”
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.”
Song: 'I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day'

Oh my goodness, what a fitting Christmas hymn! I have been visiting bloggers and I am seeing the same thread as the spirit moves among us. I just wrote a post on what touched my heart, Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel. I am going to meditate on this a little longer, thank you dear friend.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness. That song is so relevant to what has happened. Even though things change somethings never change. We live in a world filled with evil but know as Christians this is not our home. That is a promise for all the parents of the slain children to remember, as Christians, we'll see our loved ones again.
ReplyDeleteBless you, Adrienne.
Shelia ;)
I do love the Christmas music and could just listen to it all year long.
