What To Do?

Cell Phone

A question is plaguing me. I often wonder what you would do with my dilemma. It’s not an earthshaking situation but I keep asking myself, “What do my bloggy friends do”?

How do you carry your cell phone? Where do you keep it, so it is always close to you and you can hear it ring or feel it when it is on vibrate? Do you keep your phone with you - ‘on’ you most of the time? My phone is becoming more important all the time. Right now I am ‘on call’ for one of the care centers where I serve as chaplain. A situation is pending and I may be needed. Again. My phone must stay with me.

I have been keeping my phone in my purse but my purse isn’t always close to me. When I am at home my purse is usually in a different room than I. If I leave my phone in a central place in my home it’s too easy to leave home without it. So, I am curious – do you have a way to have yours close by? A way that isn’t the usual over-the-counter, basic, everyone-has-it case? Some of you are so creative – and I wonder what you do. Have you made something that works well for you? Do you know of a vendor who has come up with a wonderful product to solve my problem? Something truly useable? Something that works for you, especially if you don’t have a pocket? Something attractive?

Please let me hear your ideas. If you have photos, I'd love to see them. If you have shared something on your blog, or sell a creation to help me out, or if you have a suggestion for something I can make, I hope you will help me answer this question. I’ll let you know what I come up with. Promise.

  1. I have a couple of ideas for you Adrienne - I have to keep mine close by so I've used these. First of all I almost always wear slacks and I won't buy any that don't have pockets. If it's in your pocket you can (usually) feel it vibrate and certainly can hear it when it rings. If I'm at home I often wear an apron with a pocket and can keep it in there. Or....find a very small purse, sometimes in the children's department, that has a long strap. I wear mine over my shoulder and across my body so that my hands are free. I don't always feel it vibrate in there but most of the time I can set the sound very low and still hear it. Hope this helps! blessings, marlene

  2. Well when I'm out I of course carry it in my purse. At home I carry it around with me or I put it in a central place so anyone home can answer it. If I'm out gardening I might take it with me in the garden or I might leave it inside with someone with instructions to answer it. I suppose you could get one of those holster thingies and clip it to you if what you have on doesn't have pockets.

  3. I usually wear something, either jacket and/or pants with pockets. Even at home, most often, I wear pants with pockets, so the phone is close at hand.

  4. Believe it or not, I only have a cheapo pay as you go that immediate family uses for emergencies or quick contact. Does everyone else need 24 hour contact with me? No. I may, someday get a better phone but for now I don't have to worry about hearing it all the time!

  5. I hardly ever use mine, Adrienne, except when I go out, and it is in my pocketbook. I don't get many calls. It does come in handy when in the ER room!

  6. I'm not a big cell phone user; so mine works well to have in my purse. I have seen somewhere little bags for the cell phone that you can attach to a belt or tuck in a pocket. I just can't remember where I saw them. They were really cute too. If I remember, I will let you know.

  7. Adrienne, I am not much more help here. I keep mine in my pants pocket when I need it nearby. I put the phone on vibrate if I am out in public but still need to be available. I hope you find a solution that works well for you. You might check Etsy for some ideas. I have sold crochet gadget cozies in the past. There are some nice selections available. You might see something that would work for you. Use search words such us phone, cell phone, gadget, cozy. Good luck!

  8. During the day my phone is *always* with me as it's how students and parents reach me. Most of my shirts have a pocket so that's where the phone goes. If I'm out and about then it's in my purse. In the evenings I keep it at a central location (we don't have a large home) and at night it's on my bedside. The shirt pocket works best for me.

  9. I just have a pay as you go which I rarely use except when staying away from home or travelling. Mostly used for texting.
I donot keep it on my person having been told that that is a dangerous thing to do by a health professional. I keep it in my handbag unless if my children are away and likely to contact me on it then it sits on my dressing table. Not v ery helpful for you I am afraid.
